Ordinarily I love to shop on/at Amazon. When my son gave me a new Kindle Fire for Christmas I very much anticipated being able to obtain books conveniently and relatively cheaply for reading on the Kindle. I am particularly interested in American Civil War books. When I foun"d that "Raids and Romance of Morgan and His Men", a relatively old and hard to find book, was available via Kindle, I quickly ordered it. Alas, the people and/or digital programs, or the combination thereof, that convert original printed text to digital form for electronic delivery have done such a shoddy job that the result is almost unreadable. For example, the letter "h" in the original text is consistently shown as a "b" in the version on my Kindle. Similarly, an "elm tree" has become an "elin-tree". If such mistakes occurred only occasionally throughout the text, I still would not complain. However, such mistakes are so pervasive that they do not merely make the reading difficult, but in a number of instances whole paragraphs and pages are completely indecipherable. I assume, but do not actually know, that the work of converting the original text has been outsourced to people who do not understand English and have no appreciation for the content of the material that they have so butchered. In any event, I am highly disappointed with the result, and it futher disappoints me that Amazon and Kindle would offer same in such a state.Product details
